I’ve been a credit union member for 50 years. At Affinity’s Minton-Gladmar advice center for 40 years and for 10 years while we were living in Alberta. At the beginning of that move I visited and researched what Alberta credit unions and other banks had to offer, soon realizing there is something inherent to credit unions that make you feel both welcome and that professionals are handling your finances. Moving our banking was the only part of relocation that was seamless and stress free.

I’ve worked as a credit union Member Service Representative both in Saskatchewan and Alberta. During that time, I also served in other credit union positions, Member Service Representative Supervisor, Loans Clerk and the Privacy Compliance officer for the branch. I also availed myself to the many courses offered such as Member Law, leadership and workplace dynamics.

I relish learning, embrace change and enjoy people.

My husband and I live in the small village of Gladmar. We enjoy our community and are happy that Affinity is a part of it.

I’m currently the custodian at a Port of Entry for CBSA. I have served on a local church board, local Fall Fair committee and instructed sewing for the 4‑H club.

I respectfully submit my name for delegate nomination because I believe in Affinity’s philosophy of co-operation, commitment to community, values to build a better world and would like to contribute to these purposes.

I was first elected to the Spectra Credit Union Board in 2010. In 2013, I became the Council Chair for District 12 and in 2014, I was elected to the Affinity Board. I continue as the Affinity Director from our district today. As a director, I have served on the Governance, Human Resources and the Co‑operative Values committees, being Chair of that committee for the past two years. I have taken several courses and became an accredited credit union director in 2017.

I have managed the Estevan Curling Club for 19 years and my husband and I operate an organic grain farm south of Torquay. Our two sons live and work in Estevan.

I’ve been on the R.M. of Cambria Council since 2003 and on the Long Creek Environmental Committee since 2009, including five as chair. I served on our local organic farming executive for 15 years, including three on an international bylaws committee. I’ve also served on the Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Board since 2004.

I volunteered at the Hillcrest and Estevan Comprehensive Schools and have coached local youth in archery and curling.

I believe it’s important we continue to improve our services at Affinity while being guided by our co‑operative principles. Changes in technology, regulations and service options available, challenges Affinity to provide the best services possible to our members.

I ask for your support as I seek re-election to the South East District Council and continue in my role as a member of the Affinity Board.

I was born and raised in Oxbow and attended the University of Saskatchewan, completing a BA degree majoring in English literature and a Professional A Teacher’s Certificate. I enjoyed teaching school in Oxbow and Carnduff before choosing to farm full time. Our farm, Big Dog Seeds, grows pedigreed seed.

I have volunteered with CUSO, Oxfam, InterPares, and the Canadian Hunger Foundation on projects focused on agriculture and co-operative development in the Eastern Caribbean and Central America. I also served on the board of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

I’ve been an active member of the Saskatchewan Seed Growers, the former Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the National Farmers Union. I support co-operatives and co‑operative principles. I was elected to the Spectra Credit Union Board of Directors and, while in that position, served as Board Chair for three years. I’ve also served on the Board of Affinity Credit Union and am currently a delegate member of the Governance Committee.

I’m a good listener, a strategic thinker and team player. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the members of Affinity as an elected delegate.
