Home Ownership Initiatives

Home ownership is not only an important way for our members to build assets and achieve stability, it also creates stronger neighbourhoods and communities. That's why we partner with local and provincial governments to help low and moderate-income people and families get into home ownership sooner.

Saskatoon Equity Building Program

If you're currently renting and can afford a monthly mortgage payment but have not yet been able to save for a down payment, the Saskatoon Equity Building Program can help you get into home ownership sooner. A partnership between the City of Saskatoon and Affinity Credit Union, this program helps low-to-moderate-income households move from rental accommodations to home ownership. If you qualify, Affinity can lend you up to 5% of the purchase price for your down payment, in addition to a competitive mortgage.

Mortgage Flexibilities Support Program

With a 5% down payment grant from the City of Saskatoon, and mortgage loan insurance flexibilities from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporate (CMHC) or Genworth Financial Canada, qualified homebuyers will have the means to finance the purchase of a new home  in one of the City's designated affordable housing projects through Affinity Credit Union.

HeadStart™ on a Home & HeadStart Equity Builder Program™

Affinity is one of the partnering credit unions in the HeadStart on a Home Program™. This provincial program works with developers and municipalities to support development of entry-level, affordable housing across Saskatchewan. Through the HeadStart Equity Builder Program™, we can assist with the down payment requirement for a HeadStart home by providing a loan of up to 5% of the purchase price.
