Heart and Stroke Foundation

Affinity Credit Union is joining with the Heart and Stroke Foundation to make Heart Month person-to-person fundraising a success for 2010! This support so important, because it helps us in the fight against Saskatchewan’s biggest health threat.

A very conservative estimate is that more than 1.6 million Canadians have heart disease or are living with the effects of stroke. On a typical day, in Saskatchewan, 23 people will have a heart attack or stroke.  These are people like you - your friends, family and neighbours. As the population ages, that number is set to increase significantly in the 21st century.

Over the years, the enormous generosity of the people of Saskatchewan has led to earmarking an astounding $21.5 MILLION to scientific research in Saskatchewan - enabling research breakthroughs in science and technology and the development of innovative health promotion programs. And the effectiveness of each and every dollar donated is evidence by the fact that we continue to reduce the death rate, year after year.

Our dream is a future free from heart disease and stroke, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us. It is still our province’s leading cause of death, adult disability and the second most costly contributor to total health costs.

We make sure every dollar counts:  each time you sponsor an event participant, give at the door or make a memorial donation, your money fuels the very best research, health promotion and advocacy.

With the support of individuals across Saskatchewan, and generous supporters like Affinity Credit Union, we will continue our non-stop work.

We owe it to ourselves and to the generations to come to persist in our efforts to raise funds for our most important investment: the fight against heart disease and stroke.
