The Community Builder fee plan is for local not-for-profit community groups, clubs or associations that are organized and operated solely by non-paid individuals who volunteer their time for the common good and benefit of their community in the areas of social welfare, health and wellness, civic improvement or recreation (i.e. youth sports teams, neighbourhood community associations, etc.).

Step 1 is to call our Contact Centre at 1.866.863.6237 to set up an appointment. Step 2 is to make sure that everyone who’ll have signing authority on the account will be at the meeting.

Here’s what you’ll need to bring to the appointment:

• one piece of government-issued photo ID for each person with signing authority. These are the types of ID that’ll work:
  • driver’s license
  • government-issued provincial ID card
  • passport
  • certificate of Indian Status or Treaty Card
  • any foreign ID equivalent to acceptable Canadian documents
• signed meeting minutes demonstrating your organization’s desire to open the account. This Minutes Template can be helpful, but you don’t have to follow this format exactly.

Yes, with online banking you can send and receive Interac e-Transfer transactions, no problem. Notice of the e-Transfer is sent by email or text message so you never need to share your organization’s banking information, and the money itself is sent through your online banking so the transfer’s completely secure.

Keep in mind, there’s a $1 fee for each Interac e-Transfer transaction you send from your Community Builder account. Receiving transactions is always free!
