First Nations District
Affinity provides improved access to financial services to support First Nations individuals, families, new businesses and economic growth through our First Nations District.
The First Nations District encompasses the whole of Saskatchewan and is created through a partnership with eight First Nation Bands:
- Wahpeton Dakota Nation (458 Members)
- Cowessess First Nation (3,500 Members)
- Thunderchild First Nation (3,000 Members)
- Beardys Okemasis Nation (2881 Members)
- Little Pine First Nation (1674 Members)
- Lucky Man First Nation (102 Members)
- Mosquito First Nation (1199 Members)
- Poundmaker First Nation (1409 Members)
On-Reserve Branch
Affinity is one of the first credit unions to open an on-reserve full-service branch. Last Oak Branch is on Cowessess First Nations.
In addition to offering banking expertise, Affinity is taking an active role in supporting Cowessess partnership initiatives, educational programs and community development.
Governance
The First Nations District is one of nine Districts comprising Affinity Credit Union. It has the same powers and responsibilities as all the other Districts.
Band members who own a membership with Affinity elect eight District Council Delegates to represent them locally. From these eight Delegates, two Affinity Board of Director Members are chosen to represent the voice of the First Nations peoples centrally.
First Nations District Mission Statement
“Through a collaborative and co-operative approach, entrenched in First Nations and Credit Union histories and cultures, the First Nations District will work towards meeting the financial needs of First Nations governments and their communities.”
